Baby Feeding

For new parents, learning how to feed your new baby may seem overwhelming at times. Even for experienced parents, feeding issues can be challenging because each child is different. It is very important when reading any advice to keep in mind that your little one is unique and what works for one child may not be best for your child. It is also best to always discuss feeding issues with your baby’s pediatrician, as he or she is best suited to help you with feeding matters.

Baby Burp Cloths

Among the seemingly countless supplies all new families need is the useful little workhorse known as the burp cloth. While any material can be used as a burp cloth, such as kitchen towels or bits of absorbent fabric, one very cute, crafty burp cloth uses flat fold cloth diapers, and these burp cloths are wonderful. Not only are these burp cloths fabulous for catching spitup, but they are soft and absorbent enough to use on runny noses when the child is older, which makes them a wonderful investment of time and effort. In addition, they are durable enough to use with subsequent children, which will save money, and what new family doesn’t look for ways to do that?

Another good feature of these burp cloths is that they are easily identifiable due to the cute fabric. Bleary-eyed new parents may unintentionally grab for something unsanitary to clean a baby’s face so it can be a really nice thing to have a burp cloth close by.

These burp cloths also make environmentally friendly hand and face wipes for older children. Keep a few dry ones in the diaper bag or backpack for cleanups anywhere there is access to water, or store a few pre-moistened ones in a wet bag or re-sealable plastic bag until needed. Upon returning home, simply toss them into the hamper and launder with the child’s other clothes.

To make these soft, indispensable cloths, follow these steps:

1. Procure flat fold cloth diapers and a few yards… Read the rest

Baby Bibs

When it comes to having a baby, there are numerous things expectant parents have to think about. Most think about the big things like cribs, car seats and diapers. But, there are many other items that can make a parents’ duty much easier. Baby bibs are one of these items. There are different types of baby bibs on the market to choose from. Bibs can be very useful from the time they are infants to toddlers. Babies can be very messy and bibs can help them stay cleaner.

Even before your baby eats solid food, they can still spit up and drool. This can lead to having to change their outfit many times. Discussed below are different varieties of baby bibs. Each will have pros and cons. It is up to the parent to determine which kind of bib they want their baby to use.

Bandana Bibs

A bandana bib gets its name after how they are styled, much like a bandana which is folded in half to create a triangle. It is then tied around the neck. These types of bibs are great for babies that are teething and drooling a lot because they look more like a cute addition to an outfit rather than just a bib.

These types of baby bibs can generally absorb more drool than others because they are worn higher on the neck compared to other types of bibs. They are also harder for a baby to pull off because they are tied… Read the rest

Baby Feeding

Feeding A Newborn

While the first few weeks may seem like the easiest period for some parents (aside from losing a lot of sleep), for other parents, feeding a newborn can present a lot of problems, especially for newborns with allergy issues and sensitivity. It cannot be stated enough that breast milk is the best option for newborns. However, it is understandably not always an option for some mothers to breastfeed or pump. If you are able to breastfeed, a newborn will need to eat more frequently and more often.

Typically, formula fed babies are given a bottle every three to four hours, while breastfed babies tend to eat every two to three hours. Babies digest breast milk with much more ease than they digest formula and the flow of breast milk is not as fast if given from the breast. The exhaustion and soreness breastfeeding causes for new moms early on can often lead to frustration and can become overwhelming. This can cause new moms to give up, but with time, the body produces milk more frequently and the soreness subsides. It can also help to pump extra milk and have a spouse, friend or family member handle feedings to allow mom to rest.

How Much To Feed A Newborn

Again, each baby is different and this is very true for how much they eat. While the frequency is about the same for all babies, how much they eat during each feeding varies. With breastfed babies, it is… Read the rest
