Baby Gear

Walk down the aisle of any baby store, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices. Should I buy a play-yard or a co-sleeper? Should I skip the changing table? Do I really need a baby wipe warmer? However, all expectant parents need to consider several factors before deciding what pieces of baby gear are essential.

Baby Bouncer

Babies love to bounce. Whether it’s on mommy’s or daddy’s knee, in their stroller or playtime in their crib; it’s a pure and simple fact, babies love the motion of bouncing.

What to Do When Mommy’s or Daddy’s Knee Wears Out

Toy manufacturers are brilliant. After the thrill is gone from bouncing, there is the popular, “got to have one” baby bouncer. There are a myriad of reasons why the baby bouncer makes the perfect toy for a baby. Aside from the benefits gained through exercising, bouncers provide hours of entertainment for babies that can’t seem to stop moving.

As an educational, early developmental stage toy, baby bouncers are fabulous, because they can be equipped with music and primary colored lights. Some bouncers have lights that change colors when different music is programmed to play.

Self-Contained Baby Bouncers

There are many types of baby bounces on the market. Some are quite basic, while others have all the bells and whistles sure to please the most persnickety child. Of course, the cost of a baby bouncer is usually determined by the accessories the unit comes with as well as the quality of the unit itself. There are self contained baby bouncers that are round with a dropped in seat. Some of these self-contained units have wheels and look… Read the rest

Night Lights

Planning for your baby’s arrival is an exciting time, but there is much to be done. There are so many things to consider when setting up the nursery for your new baby. You want the room to be visually pleasing, but it also needs to be safe and practical.

One important thing the nursery will need is a night light for baby. A night light for a baby room is helpful when you want to check on your child without waking him or her. It allows you to look around the room without turning on a brighter light.

Having a night light for your baby is a good way to keep an infant comforted. When your baby wakes at night, the light lets the child see what is in the room. Others have features that cause them to come on automatically when the room gets too dark.

Safety should be your first concern when placing a night light for a baby nursery. The location of a night light for your baby room requires careful consideration. Always keep the light away from the crib so that your baby cannot reach it.

Baby Gear

Choosing the best baby gear:

Things to consider: Do you want the pink girly nursery, the boyish nursery with the sports pattern? Is having the trendiest and most modern looking equipment important to you? If cost is a factor and you plan on having more than one child, it might be prudent to invest in some gender neutral, timeless pieces that won’t go out of style in several years. Even the most basic and gender neutral of nurseries can be dressed up with some less expensive finishes such as paint color or artwork.

The second major consideration is space. If you live in a small house or apartment, you might find that you prefer to have minimal baby gear, or equipment that can either serve a double purpose or be repurposed later on when your baby has grown older. If space is an issue, you might consider forgoing the traditional changing table and instead purchasing a soft changing pad to use on top of the baby’s dresser. You can also swap out the full sized baby swings for the smaller travel swings.

Third, consider your parenting ideals and practices. If you are choosing to breastfeed, chances are you can skip buying various bottles, formula warmers, and bottle brushes. If you practice attachment parenting, you may wish to invest in a baby sling instead of a state of the art stroller. If you want to cloth diaper, skip the baby wipe warmers, diaper pails, and diaper organizers and instead… Read the rest
