Baby Safety at Home
A baby’s safety is vital and can only be provided by those around him or her. Parents or guardians have to ensure that the baby’s immediate environs, the home, are safe and secure. Even though babies may not move much when they are really young, you can never be too careful putting safety devices in place. Start off by making sure the crib is comfortable and well protected. This may include having bars around the crib. This will keep the baby safe from pets if you have any, your other children and any other unforeseen danger. A mosquito net is also essential to prevent your baby from getting infections from mosquito bites.
As your baby begins to grow and explore, more measures have to be taken and put in place. Young children are curious about everything around them. They want to touch, feel, eat, reach for, crawl towards and, once they start walking, go for everything. To avoid fatalities in the home, baby proofing devices are available that you can easily install. Alternatively, you could have a baby proofing expert do it for you. This will guarantee safety all over the house. Some of the devices that can be incorporated include;
• Electric socket covers, cord clamps and cable tidy – These are necessary to protect babies from electrical outputs and cables. The cable tidy ensures that no cables are left hanging or unattended thus reducing risks of injury.
• Playpens and gates – Playpens are safe structures that keep… Read the rest
Baby Playards Multi-Purpose
A play yard is such a wonderful multi-purpose piece of baby gear. They come with a variety of different accessories to make life with your new baby as easy as possible. Utilizing these tools really does make a huge difference and should be taken into account when planning for life with a baby.
A play yard is great for many reasons, but the portability is perhaps one of the greatest. It folds up and fits into a zip-up bag with a convenient carrying strap. Whether taking a long distance trip via airplane or even a short trip down the road to a friend’s house, this makes travelling extremely simple. They even come with wheels to move easily around the house.
There are many other characteristics of a play yard that make it so wonderful. Many play yards now come with a removable bassinet for newborns. It is usually made of a mesh material that clips into the top part of the play yard and the floor mat fits into the bottom to create a miniature crib. There is a weight limit that should be considered when using the bassinet feature to ensure proper safety. When baby grows out of the bassinet, remove it and place the floor mat into the bottom to create a stable, much larger area. This space can be used for sleeping or playing depending on the circumstance.
A detachable changing table is another characteristic of many play yards. You can attach the changing table when needed… Read the rest
Baby Food Myths
When it comes to your baby, we don’t need to tell you that you’re going to do whatever you can to make sure that they’re eating a healthy diet, one that is safe, and one that can help them to grow up big and strong. And so, it’s only natural that you’re going to be skeptical of most of the advice that comes your way, and that you’re probably going to double-check every tidbit you receive.
Don’t resist that. Being skeptical is something that makes you a good parent. There are limits, of course, and some parents you’ll meet are simply distrustful of literally everything and anything, whether or not it’s backed up by facts and solid research. The important thing when raising your first child, though, is that you think with your brain, and not your heart. When it comes to what’s best for your child, you have to know. Having a “feeling” that this or that is best simply isn’t enough, you need to know.
What you need to look for, when deciding on baby food and formula, is good, solid facts. Logical facts are the only thing that you really have to go on when determining what your baby needs and at what stage, and you’re going to want to lean them as much as possible. You can cross-reference these if you like, but these are three myths about baby food, formula and feeding that have got to go:
Myth 1: Breastfeeding in Public is Illegal

Baby Bibs
Everything is wonderful when the new baby comes home. Life could not be more perfect than it is at that point. That feeling of euphoria soon comes to an end when the baby spits up, becomes colicky and ceases to smell like baby shampoo. Babies are wonderful little beings that fill our lives with joy and with that joy comes many stress factors. Trying to keep baby’s clothes clean should not be an additional stress factor. That is where baby bibs come into play.
Parents are busy trying to make sure that baby has everything he or she needs throughout the day. Among the many chores that ultimately accompany new parenthood are changing diapers, feeding and calming the baby. Baby bibs come in handy during every feeding, but that is not the only time things can get messy with the baby. Baby bibs can be worn throughout the day to avoid several issues that can arise.
The problem that some parents have with using them is that baby bibs tend to cover up that “cute outfit”. When parents disregard the baby bib facts, opting to show off the cute clothing underneath, they also invite other problems into the scenario. The main reason to use baby bibs is to keep stains off clothing. Stains from baby formula, mother’s milk and, later, solid foods are difficult to remove from clothing. Once the clothing is stained, it may have to be discarded, costing parents the price of new clothing.

Baby Registry Tips
Whether you’re having a baby shower or not, using a baby registry is beneficial to both you and the people who wish to purchase a gift. Rather than purchasing items that will go unused, a registry can help family and friends as they seek the perfect gift for you and your baby. If you’re expecting your first baby, you may be at a loss as to what should be on your registry. A few tips will help you create a registry that works best for you, your family and friends, and anyone else attending your shower.
Start Early
By the time you reach the halfway point in your pregnancy, you can begin thinking about where you wish to register and for what items. If you have favorite department stores or have found a special baby store you love, inquire about their registry service. Do a little research so you know what baby essentials should be on your registry to avoid ending up with items you can’t use or don’t necessarily want.
Provide a Wide Range of Items
Don’t feel badly about placing large ticket items, such as a crib, rocking chair or changing table, on your registry. Just balance gifts such as this with smaller items, too, such as receiving blankets, bottles, and diaper bag essentials. Family members or close friends might already intend to buy you some of the larger items needed and by placing them on the registry; you help people buy for you with confidence.

Baby Carrier
When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, my husband and I were thrilled in that naive sort of way that first-timers often are. Visions of chubby, cuddly, dozing babies danced in our heads while any realistic issues were tossed by the wayside for the time being. As the life inside me began to take form, my mothering instincts kicked in, and I began to devour all information I could get my hands on relating to pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for a newborn.
I knew we needed supplies, but I was determined to buy only those practical items that we would use on a regular basis, steering clear of all the “fluff.” Our tiny house was cramped as it was, and I couldn’t imagine filling it with clunky contraptions to soothe a fussy baby.
Baby carriers were one of the items I came across that intrigued me. I learned that many mothers found it helpful to “wear” their baby throughout the day, allowing them to complete chores and tasks with free hands while giving their babies a comforting, stimulating experience. Being the multi-tasker that I naturally am, the thought of completing my to-do list without missing a beat thrilled me.
I learned about the basic types of carriers. Backpacks allow you to carry your baby on your back. These are suitable for babies who have total head control, so you really can’t use them until your baby is around 6 months old. Backpacks are available in… Read the rest
Baby Bottle
If you have decided to bottle feed your baby, you may be overwhelmed by the number of bottles available. Do you choose a bent or straight bottle? Do you want a bottle with a liner or without? Do you want a glass bottle or plastic bottle? How do you choose a bottle or bottle system for your baby?
Many people choose a bottle based upon recommendations from their family and friends. This is a good way to make a choice, but keep in mind that your baby may not like the same bottle that your friend’s baby liked. In fact, if you bottle feed all of your babies, you still may need different types of bottles because each of your children might like a different type of nipple. For this reason, it is best to not purchase a lot of bottle supplies initially. For example, you may have purchased a nice bottle system only to discover that your baby really likes the style of bottle used at the hospital. In that case, you may decide to purchase bottles that are similar for use at home.
Even if you are breastfeeding, you may want to train your baby to take a bottle. This is helpful if you need to go back to work, as your baby will be adjusted to drinking from a bottle as well as breastfeeding. In this case, you will want to find a system that is designed to be used by breastfeeding mothers. If you have… Read the rest
Baby Toys

Few things can inspire such nostalgia and whimsy as baby toys. While you know you should be focusing on clothes and furniture and car seats or strollers, you can’t help but be drawn to all the toys! Toys for babies are a really great addition to any nursery, and should be seriously considered a top priority. Babies need more mental stimulation than we often realize, and brightly colored or patterned toys can provide the stimulation that even newborns need.
For the earliest of newborns, look for toys that are soft and boldly patterned. Blacks, whites, and reds in chunky color blocks or patterns have shown to be the most eye catching and stimulating for infants. Since babies at this age are not mobile, play time can simply consist of you holding the toy over baby’s open eyes, or setting it out on the floor in front of the child during tummy time.
Once the infant has begun learning how to make simple and jerky arm movements, it is a good time to introduce such age old toys as rattles. Choose one that has a chunkier handle that is easy for baby to grasp in its reflexive hand hold technique. You can place the handle of the rattle in the child’s hand, and it will grasp it automatically, and when they move their arm, the sounds of the rattle will delight and inspire them. Not only does this keep them entertained, it is also the very beginning of an important… Read the rest
