Baby booties are traditional and take the place of shoes before shoes become necessary. They come in dozens of styles and they are among the most treasured items when children are tiny, especially if the booties have been handmade by a loving friend or family member.
Socks are a clothing staple and because some styles fall off the foot very easily, it is helpful to buy the type with a generously sized folded cuff.
Socks are available in thin knits, like dress socks, and thick, like tube socks. As the baby begins to walk, socks with grippers on the bottom are recommended to help prevent slipping, although, grippers can be difficult to stuff into shoes, so be sure to have plenty of both gripper socks and gripper-free at the ready.
One overlooked item that deserves a mention is the legwarmer. They are available in many colors and styles, and are indispensable! While babies will quickly outgrow socks and booties, they will take much longer to outgrow legwarmers, so they are a wonderful investment. A single pair of legwarmers purchased in infancy can be used until the child is four years old, possibly even longer.
