Choosing Baby Toys

As a new mom, you want to buy your baby toys that will be both fun and educational. Therefore, there are a few things you should consider carefully when purchasing baby toys for your own bundle of joy.

Toys Should Catch Baby’s Attention

Really take time to look through all of the baby toys on the market today. Look specifically for toys that are brightly colored or have interesting patterns that will surely catch your baby’s attention. Babies seem to be attracted to stripes, polka dots, and floral prints that they can study. Another tip is to look for toys that feature two colors that really stand out in stark contrast to one another. Babies will appreciate the differences in color and be even more attracted to the toys. Visually attractive toys make babies want to explore.

Babies Like to Touch

Babies will start to reach for their toys soon after birth. Make sure the toys you buy have different textures on them. Babies will notice the different textures and will rub those textures on their hands, on their face, and just about anywhere they can reach. Remember that at some point all of your baby’s toys will go into her mouth as that is one way babies learn and explore. Look carefully at a toy to make sure that it will be safe in case your baby puts it in her mouth or tries to chew on it.

Baby Toys

Few things can inspire such nostalgia and whimsy as baby toys. While you know you should be focusing on clothes and furniture and car seats or strollers, you can’t help but be drawn to all the toys! Toys for babies are a really great addition to any nursery, and should be seriously considered a top priority. Babies need more mental stimulation than we often realize, and brightly colored or patterned toys can provide the stimulation that even newborns need.

For the earliest of newborns, look for toys that are soft and boldly patterned. Blacks, whites, and reds in chunky color blocks or patterns have shown to be the most eye catching and stimulating for infants. Since babies at this age are not mobile, play time can simply consist of you holding the toy over baby’s open eyes, or setting it out on the floor in front of the child during tummy time.

Once the infant has begun learning how to make simple and jerky arm movements, it is a good time to introduce such age old toys as rattles. Choose one that has a chunkier handle that is easy for baby to grasp in its reflexive hand hold technique. You can place the handle of the rattle in the child’s hand, and it will grasp it automatically, and when they move their arm, the sounds of the rattle will delight and inspire them. Not only does this keep them entertained, it is also the very beginning of an important… Read the rest

Bath Toys

Bath time can be the very best time of the day for any baby. For some reason, almost all babies love water and will spend hours in it if they’re allowed to. Baths are not just about hygiene; they are a time for mother and baby to relax together and bond. Warm water can also be very soothing to a sick or cranky infant. Sometimes just putting a baby in the tub will solve all of her woes.

Bath time can also be a time for learning. Babies love to explore their environment, and there is so much to see and do in the tub. There is water to splash and bubbles to sculpt. There is shampoo to paint with. Even the washcloth is an interesting experience. It can be sucked on and dipped in the water and even draped over the faucet.

Bath time should always be relaxed and fun. Adding toys to the tub is a great way to accomplish that. Most stores that carry infant supplies will also have bathtub toys. Chose several different kinds but only offer a few at a time. Changing the toys around will keep your baby interested. Before giving them to your baby, make sure that they are age-appropriate and do not pose any kind of choking hazard. Don’t use toys that are not designed for water as they may come apart in the tub.
